This past week has been very interesting. I had my first PLC meeting with the 5th and 4th grade team at7:15am on Wednesday morning. We discussed open house, the new Florida Standards, tests from the district, and when we will start RTI. I am looking forward to our RTI sessions, which we call BLC (Bulls Learning Club). The focus is on literacy. Last year in second grade during BLC I taught literature circles and reader's theatre. I am excited to use my past experience to help a small group of 4th/5th grade students.
Thursday marked the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Last year at this time I taught my first lesson in second grade. I taught them a history lesson on 9/11 and how to write a letter. This year I did the same thing for fifth grade but I made it more intermediate. It was a very emotional day. It was interesting to see the difference in 2nd and 5th grade knowledge about the September 11th attacks. My lesson objectives were for students to be able to write a formal letter and understand the meaning of being a great citizen. Attached below is my 9/11 lesson plan!
