This week in 5th, my CT had a professional training day on Friday which meant I got to sub all day! I was so excited, yet nervous. It was my first time teaching all day in intermediate and teaching science. I planned my day by making what makes sense to me. I created a Flipchart for the Smartboard, notecards for my talking points, and then all of my lesson plans. We started the day with morning work with a question that was reviewing what they learned yesterday in math, standard algorithm division. As students winded in we started our day. First was science. We accomplished half of what the LDC asked for us to do. Time management is something I am struggling with but am learning as I go! I knew I had to stop at 8:40 for specials. During specials, I collected homework and reviewed planners to see if parents hd left any comments. After specials we finished science and moved in ELA. During ELA we continued pushing through the LDC packet. Students worked in pairs (they got to choose their partner because they worked hard during science) and highlighted the key details of their essential questions, how does a roller coaster work? After ELA we had lunch. During lunch I reflected on how my day was going and prepared for math. Math stared out with challenging question to spark the partial quotients lesson. Math was tough but we powered through it together practicing the SMP #6 by having students jot down when I used our division vocabulary and when they used the division math language. Overall teaching, I survived. I need to work on time management and being more strict in the classroom. We had a very talkative Friday but it is something for me to improve on! That is why I love being apart of education because I am always reflecting, learning new things, and being flexible.
I'm excited to get paid!
