Hope you all had a fun and safe Labor Day weekend! This week flew by. In fifth grade I taught a blog writing lesson and a shared reading lesson. The blog lesson was for our first blog post on our classroom blog (FCO). They blogged about teamwork and loved it! Everyone was engaged. I observed student's struggling with keyboarding though. I am concerned because the FSA in 5th grade are given on the computer, except for science. My goal for this year is to prepare my student's for a technological world by teaching them basic computer skills!
This week I taught a shared reading lesson about text features. I co-planned with my teacher friend Melanie, who is also a final year resident in 5th grade, and we spent over 3 hours lesson planning! Some people may call us crazy but we try out best to be perfectionist. The 3 hour lesson planning was very discouraging because I felt so confident with teaching literacy. Last year as a resident in second grade I taught a decent amour of shared reading lessons. It would take me around 45 minutes to plan for a 30 minute lesson, unlike 3 hours. The lesson went very well and I tried to record it but unfortunately my iPad ran out of storage during filming. As I reflect on my lesson I look back at that 3 hour time period as an adjustment to fifth grade. Intermediate teaching is very different from primary and it is a learning journey for me!
I wonder when I will know what grade I am destined to teach....
Thanks for reading!
